Changes following Increase in COVID-19 Vaccinations and Orange County’s Movement Into the Red Tier
Now that the number of persons fully vaccinated for COVID-19 has increased and Orange County has moved into the red tier of the state’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy,” we are making certain changes here at OLG. More changes will be made in the coming months as more and more persons are fully vaccinated and Orange County moves into the orange and then yellow tiers.
We have reconfigured the seating in the church to provide seating in every other pew rather than every third pew. This will allow a larger number of persons to be seated in the church while maintaining physical distancing between households. Although state requirements continue to allow admission into the church of up to 25% capacity (250 persons), even the reconfigured church seating, practically speaking, provides room for only about 175 persons with physical distancing between households (the actual number varying depending on the number in each household).
For the time being, admission into the church will continue to be on a first come, first served basis, through the entrance at the southwest corner of the church. The doors will continue to be locked at the beginning of Mass – latecomers will not be admitted into the church.
Wearing of face masks covering both the mouth and nose continue to be absolutely required in the church, except for babies before they are walking. Priests and lectors remove their masks when they have speaking parts. At Communion time, masks may be removed only long enough to receive Communion. If you are unable to wear a face mask because of age or health reasons, you are encouraged to attend one of the Masses outdoors.
Because outdoor gatherings are safer than indoor gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is highly recommended that you attend indoor Masses only if you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, it is highly recommended that you attend our outdoor Masses.
Orange County’s movement into the red tier also means that it is more practical safely to have singing in the church in accordance with state requirements. Singing will be reinstated at the 5:30 pm Saturday Mass on March 27.
Disciple Maker Index (DMI)
The Diocese of Orange has begun a process, the Disciple Maker Index (DMI), to get a sense of how our people think about the state of their parish, as well as their own faith life. The DMI is an anonymous survey of parishioners that provides insights into the level of missionary discipleship in the parish in addition to the effectiveness of the Mass experience, preaching and other aspects of the parish. The DMI Survey will be open and active for responses until March 22, 2021.
