Alert About Panhandlers on Parish Property After Masses
Please do not give money to panhandlers on our parish property after Masses. We serve the poor well in this parish through our food distributions during the week and the money you donate to our parish
Our Brothers and Sisters in Need fund (click here to donate to that fund). Our parish policy is not to allow panhandling on our parish property and to offer panhandlers assistance through our parish outreach – which they almost always refuse. If they appear inclined to continue panhandling despite our directive to stop, we ask them to leave the parish property and call the police if they refuse to do so.
Often, we know that the panhandlers on parish property are not actually poor – because when we ask them to leave the parish property, we watch them drive away in really nice SUVs and cars! Some women panhandlers holding a couple of young children to try to garner sympathy from passers-by have tried to claim that both were their children when that would not be possible – if one of the children appears to be about six months old and the other about nine months old, you do the math! In any event, using young children in this way is both illegal and immoral as a form of child labor and child abuse. Please do not give money to these people and enable this kind of child abuse!
