Thank you so much for all of your prayers, cards and well wishes during this time of attending to my health. Thanks be to God that he has blessed me with good doctors and other health care workers who have successfully diagnosed and treated my congestive heart failure and diabetes. I generally feel much better and have more energy than I did last summer and fall. I have my days when I am not feeling well and my energy is low. But for the most part, I feel very well.
I continue to take eight different kinds of medications for my congestive heart failure and diabetes, as well as maintain a balanced diet – keeping the carbs as low as I can for the diabetes and the sodium as low as I can for the congestive heart failure. Limiting the carbs is especially a challenge for me. Carbs seem to be everywhere and in everything! They are like little devils lurking in all of my favorite foods always trying to tempt me into indulging in consuming more of them than I should! But with God’s help and supported by your prayers, I am generally able to keep my carb intake in balance, and my blood sugar numbers are generally within an acceptable range.
My surgery a month ago to have a defibrillator implanted went well, and I am now fully recovered. I am now a “bionic priest,” as one parishioner called me, and I join many of you in having some kind of “spare parts” installed in my body. Thanks be to God for modern medicine and technology that allow us to live healthier and longer!
As I have said and written many times, one of the blessings of having these health issues is that I now have direct experience and a better understanding of what so many of you also experience – less than perfect health. I am now able truly to walk with you in our shared health challenges.
Again, thank you for your prayerful support. Let us walk together with faith in our loving God who blesses us in so many ways, especially with the gift of one another to love and care for one another.
Muchas gracias por todas sus oraciones, tarjetas y buenos deseos durante este tiempo de atender mi salud. Gracias a Dios porque me ha bendecido con buenos médicos y otros trabajadores de la salud que han diagnosticado y tratado con éxito mi insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva y diabetes. En general, me siento mucho mejor y tengo más energía que el verano y otoño pasados. Tengo mis días en los que no me siento bien y tengo poca energía. Pero en su mayor parte, me siento muy bien.
Continúo tomando ocho tipos diferentes de medicamentos para mi insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva y diabetes, además de mantener una dieta equilibrada, manteniendo los carbohidratos lo más bajos posible para la diabetes y el sodio lo más bajo posible para la insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva. Limitar los carbohidratos es especialmente un desafío para mí. ¡Los carbohidratos parecen estar en todas partes y en todo! ¡Son como pequeños demonios que acechan en todas mis comidas favoritas, siempre tratando de tentarme para que consuma más de lo que debería! Pero con la ayuda de Dios y el apoyo de sus oraciones, por lo general puedo mantener el equilibrio de mi ingesta de carbohidratos, y mis niveles de azúcar en la sangre están generalmente dentro de un rango aceptable.
Mi cirugía hace un mes para implantar un desfibrilador salió bien y ahora estoy completamente recuperado. Ahora soy un “sacerdote biónico”, como me llamó un feligrés, y me uno a muchos de ustedes para que me instalen algún tipo de “repuestos” en mi cuerpo. ¡Gracias a Dios por la medicina y la tecnología modernas que nos permiten vivir más sanos y por más tiempo!
Como he dicho y escrito muchas veces, una de las bendiciones de tener estos problemas de salud es que ahora tengo una experiencia directa y una mejor comprensión de lo que muchos de ustedes también experimentan: una salud menos que perfecta. Ahora puedo realmente caminar con ustedes en nuestros desafíos de salud compartidos.
Una vez más, gracias por su apoyo en la oración. Caminemos juntos con fe en nuestro Dios amoroso que nos bendice de muchas maneras, especialmente con el don de los unos a los otros para amarnos y cuidarnos los unos a los otros.
Further Changes Toward Normalcy Coming the Weekend of June 5-6
With COVID-19 vaccinations now readily available for everyone 16 years of age and older, it is with great joy that we announce the following changes that will take place the weekend of June 5-6 (fittingly the Solemnity of Corpus Christi):
- The 8:00AM Spanish and 10:00AM English Masses will move into the church. These Masses will no longer be livestreamed or posted on YouTube. May 30 will be the last time that these Masses will be outdoors, livestreamed or posted on YouTube.
- Confessions on Saturday at 4:00PM will move into the church. May 29 will be the last time that these Confessions will be outdoors.
- There will no longer be drive-thru Communion at 12 noon. May 30 will be the last time that we will have drive-thru Communion.
- The tape blocking off every other pew in the church will be removed so that every pew will be available for seating.
Más cambios hacia la normalidad a partir del fin de semana del 5 al 6 de junio
Con las vacunas COVID-19 ahora disponibles para todos los mayores de 16 años, es con gran alegría que anunciamos los siguientes cambios que ocurrirán el fin de semana del 5 al 6 de junio (apropiadamente la Solemnidad de Corpus Christi):
- Las Misas de 8:00AM en español y 10:00AM en inglés se trasladarán a la iglesia. Estas Misas ya no se transmitirán en vivo ni se publicarán en YouTube. El 30 de mayo será la última vez que estas Misas serán al aire libre, transmitidas en vivo o publicadas en YouTube.

- Ya no habrá Comunión de autoservicio a las 12 del mediodía. El 30 de mayo será la última vez que tendremos la Comunión desde el automóvil.
- Se quitará la cinta que bloquea todos los demás bancos de la iglesia para que todos los bancos estén disponibles para sentarse.
