ESTE FIN DE SEMANA EN OLG

I encourage everyone to have a bit of a Mardi Gras spirit over the next few days as we approach Ash Wednesday this coming Wednesday. No, I definitely do not encourage anyone to emulate the kind of behavior we normally see on Bourbon Street in New Orleans this time of year. And I think any kind of celebration these days needs to be tempered with a sense of concern for the Ukrainian people, who are once again facing oppression and persecution by an evil Russian leader.

But we certainly can be happy about how Lent and spring will be very different this year than last. Here at OLG, we can look forward to Lenten and Holy Week services this year in the church rather than outdoors as we were last year. COVID rates are way down, and masking requirements have been greatly relaxed, making just about every part of our lives better. Thanks be to God! And so let us have a Mardi Gras spirit over these next few days of celebrating and thanking God for these blessings in our lives.

But let us also keep the Ukrainian people in our prayers over the next few days and in the Lenten season to come. The devil certainly is having success in the Russian leadership these days. As I pray the St. Michael’s prayer during this time, a focus for my prayer will certainly be for the dissipation of Satan’s influence in Moscow. But let us also keep our faith in Christ, for the power of Christ always eventually prevails over Satan, and the love of Christ eventually will prevail in Moscow and in our hearts if we just let it.

Animo a todos a tener un poco de espíritu de Mardi Gras en los próximos días a medida que nos acercamos al Miércoles de Ceniza el próximo miércoles. No, definitivamente no animo a nadie a emular el tipo de comportamiento que normalmente vemos en Bourbon Street en Nueva Orleans en esta época del año. Y creo que cualquier tipo de celebración en estos días debe estar templada con un sentido de preocupación por el pueblo ucraniano, que una vez más se enfrenta a la opresión y la persecución de un malvado líder ruso.

Pero ciertamente podemos estar felices de cómo la Cuaresma y la primavera serán muy diferentes este año que el año pasado. Aquí en OLG, podemos esperar los servicios de Cuaresma y Semana Santa este año en la iglesia en lugar de al aire libre como el año pasado. Las tasas de COVID han bajado mucho y los requisitos de uso de máscaras se han relajado mucho, lo que mejora casi todas las partes de nuestras vidas. ¡Gracias a Dios! Así que tengamos un espíritu de Mardi Gras durante estos próximos días de celebración y agradecimiento a Dios por estas bendiciones en nuestras vidas.

Pero mantengamos también al pueblo ucraniano en nuestras oraciones durante los próximos días y en el próximo tiempo de Cuaresma. El diablo ciertamente está teniendo éxito en el liderazgo ruso en estos días. Mientras rezo la oración de San Miguel durante este tiempo, un enfoque de mi oración será sin duda la disipación de la influencia de Satanás en Moscú. Pero también mantengamos nuestra fe en Cristo, porque el poder de Cristo eventualmente siempre prevalecerá sobre Satanás, y el amor de Cristo eventualmente prevalecerá en Moscú y en nuestros corazones si lo permitimos.

Rosary Rally: Saturday February 19, 2022

In this time of difficulty and divisiveness, Our Lady offers us the most powerful weapon for us to use in these dark times: The Rosary. I invite anyone and everyone who wishes to turn back this tide of darkness to join us to pray for our Lady's intercession and our Lord's favor, for the conversion of sinners and the return of our country to Jesus Christ. In Him, all things are possible.

Please note the date change for March: Due to an unforeseen event I will be out of town on that weekend so I have to move this Rally to March 26, 2022.

After this, our dates for our public Rosary Rally will be on the following dates:

April 16, 2022

May 21, 2022

June 18, 2022

As always, check-in starts at11:45AM and the Rosary will start at 12:00PM. Extra Rosary beads are available for those who don't have any or forget to bring them. I also encourage everyone to bring as friend or family members.

Knights of Columbus Food Drive: March 5th and 6th

The next Knights of Columbus Food Drive will be on Saturday, March 5th from 5:00-7:00PM & Sunday, March 6th from 6:00-11:30AM. Items collected will be distributed to those locally in need. Bring your donations to the Parish Office garage on your way to Mass. Needed: Canned goods (soups, vegetables, fruit, tuna, meats, stew); Dry foods (hot or cold cereal, beans, rice, spaghetti/pasta); Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet tissue, disposable diapers). Thank you for your support!

¡La proxima colecta de alimentos de Caballeros de Colón se llevará a cabo el sábado 5 de Marzo de 5:00-7:00PM y Domingo 6 de Marzo de 6:00-11:30AM.
