This week, I have exciting news to share with you all…drum roll, please!
I am thrilled to announce a new theological speaker series, titled “Catholics Invade the Bar: The Pearl of Great Price”. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is partnering with La Perla Azul Restaurant in La Habra, and our very own Knights of Columbus, Joseph Scott Council #7142, to bring you a 9-week series of dynamic lectures by exciting speakers from across the country beginning October 11th and continuing until December 6th, 2023.
Beginning October 11th, we will be meeting every Wednesday for nine weeks from 6:00-7:30PM, at La Perla Azul Restaurant to learn more about the “faith delivered once and for all to the saints” (Jude 3).
Space is limited, and we’d love to see you there. The suggested donation for each evening is $15 ($135 for the whole series). Food and drink will be available for purchase at La Perla Azul (food and drink are not included in the registration donation, which helps offset the cost of putting on this series). We hope you come hungry and thirsty both for a tasty meal and for the truth.
This is the 3rd Annual Edition of CIB, which I started in 2021 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in San Clemente, and which was held at HH Cotton’s American Bar and Grill in San Clemente. The second CIB took place earlier this year at Casa Jimenez Restaurant in Huntington Beach with St. Vincent de Paul Church. The first edition of CIB was video recorded by Guadalupe Radio, and is still available for streaming on their App at: https://www.guadaluperadio.com/cartelera/serie/539/1
Both CIB series have been sell-out successes, and great fun for all. These are “all adult” events (both for younger and older adults of all ages), and we are happy to announce that we will also be able to offer free childcare at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church so that young families will be able to attend.

In addition to the roll out of “Catholics Invade the Bar: The Pearl of Great Price”, I also would like to give you an update on the exciting construction developments here that continue to move along swiftly.
Most especially, it gives me great joy to announce that our men’s bathroom has been significantly fixed and updated, and the sewer gas leak has been remedied completely. Believe it or not, it even smells like flowers! And if that isn’t a miracle, I don’t know what is. My sincerest gratitude to Arturo Sanchez, Keith Kang, and the fantastic Diocesan approved construction team involved in this project, Andy Adair, and his firm, A2 Contracting, Inc. I have included “before”, “during”, and “after” construction pictures of our much-improved men’s bathroom for your viewing interest. And, effective immediately, if you’re a gentleman in need of the facilities, please know that you will no longer need a gas mask to enter the loo!
In addition, as I mentioned last week, our Hazmat Suited Soldiers, the H.S.S., have continued their assiduous labors, and this week they have turned to the old apartment at the Rectory. This apartment was an add-on to the Rectory during the time of Msgr. Coleman and hadn’t received much of any updates since he lived there, decades ago. In addition to being very dated and in poor condition, the apartment also had a black mold infestation tied up with asbestos. This week, the H.S.S. has been actively removing the asbestos and mold, so that we can then begin renovating the apartment to bring it into the 21st century. Our goal is to have the apartment fixed up by October 1st, so that Fr. Timothy Donovan can move into the apartment that first week of October. Here are a few pictures of the H.S.S. in action, as they prepare the way for the construction to come.

Any member of the faithful can receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick as soon as he or she begins to be in danger of death because of sickness or old age. The faithful who receive this sacrament can receive it several times if their illness becomes worse or another serious sickness afflicts them. Join us for Mass if you would like to receive this Sacrament.

“I AM” — the revelation of God’s name to Moses. A name covered in mystery, yet within it, an unfathomable declaration: Existence is here. Without origin and without end, an ever-present God speaking with a friend — a nearness that would culminate in God becoming man. Christ, the light and life of the human race, walked among us — a demonstration of His desire to become one with us. This coming October 20 and 21, in response to the Bishops’ call for a National Eucharistic Revival, we will set out to host our own Eucharistic Congress. This event will invite people from all walks of life to gather in anticipation of the nearness of God. “YO SOY”: la revelación del nombre de Dios a Moisés. Un nombre envuelto en misterio, pero dentro de él, una declaración insondable: la Existencia está aquí. Sin origen y sin fin, un Dios siempre presente hablando con un amigo, una cercanía que culminaría en Dios haciéndose hombre. Cristo, la luz y la vida de la raza humana, caminó entre nosotros, una demostración de su deseo de hacerse uno con nosotros. Ahora, Eternidad ligada a la humanidad, Existencia ligada al pan, Jesús aguarda sobre el altar, resonando: "YO ESTOY AQUÍ".
Los próximos 20 y 21 de octubre, en respuesta al llamado de los obispos a un Renacimiento Eucarístico Nacional, nos prepararemos para organizar nuestro propio Congreso Eucarístico. Este evento invitará a personas de todos los ámbitos de la vida a reunirse en anticipación de la cercanía de Dios. A través de oradores poderosos, oración transformadora y celebraciones sacramentales, experimentaremos la vida que fluye de Su existencia, encontrándonos con Él en la realidad de Su Presencia.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
