My dear friends in Christ, happy Sunday!
This week, I have the honor of congratulating the newest member of our clergy in our parish, the Reverend Deacon Kevin Duthoy, Esq.
On Saturday morning at Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, Deacon Kevin received the Sacrament of Holy Orders in the first degree (the diaconate) through the laying on of Bishop Vann’s high priestly hands and the prayer of ordination. Heartfelt congratulations to Deacon Kevin and his wife, Carmen, and to their whole family!
It is always a blessing to be able to welcome new members of the clergy to a parish, and this is especially the case for someone like Deacon Kevin. I had the pleasure of teaching Deacon Kevin as a student during his time in the Diaconate Formation Program, for which I am one of the theological instructors, and I can tell you that I am genuinely excited to have him as a member of our clerical staff, both because of his intelligence and aptitude, and also because of his kind and gracious spirit. Once again, my sincerest congratulations to Deacon Kevin Duthoy and Mrs. Carmen Duthoy!
It is also a great pleasure to announce that, with the completion of the remodeling of the Rectory Apartment, Fr. Timothy Donovan is now in residence at the parish, effective this Sunday. While Fr. Tim is not formally assigned to our parish as a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe clerical staff (his full-time job is being the President and Founder of Faith and Family Life Catholic Ministries), nonetheless you will be seeing Fr. Tim from time-to-time at our parish Masses. Please don’t hesitate to say “hello” to him and to introduce yourselves (and you might even get to meet his two French Bulldogs, Regina and Titus).
Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Deacon Kevin and Carmen, and Fr. Tim! It is a blessing and a joy to have you here with us.
In addition to Deacon Kevin’s ordination and Fr. Tim’s “official” arrival, this week I also have several exciting announcements.
Firstly, I am thrilled to announce that the Orange Catholic Foundation (OCF) has chosen Our Lady of Guadalupe Church to be the recipient of a financial grant in the amount of $85,525 from their Parishes in Need Endowment Fund. OCF has given us these funds to assist us with our ongoing building restoration and remodeling efforts. My sincerest gratitude to the staff of OCF, and most especially to Mr. Steve Cameron, Executive Director of OCF, for choosing our parish for this grant, and to Mr. Anthony Vultaggio, Philanthropy Officer with OCF, for delivering this check to us on Friday, October 13th. This is just one more example of the enormous help we have received from the Diocese throughout the years here at OLG (both before I arrived this past July, and since my arrival), and I would like to express my immense gratitude to His Excellency, Bishop Kevin W. Vann, our Ordinary, and to Their Excellencies, Bishop Timothy Freyer and Bishop Thanh Thai Nguyen, the auxiliary bishops of our Diocese, as well as to the Very Rev. Angelos Sebastian, Vicar General, for their wonderful solicitude for our parish’s wellbeing.
am also delighted to announce that this past week’s first session of “Catholics Invade the Bar” was not only successful but was also a total “tequila fueled” blast. We had over 100+ people in attendance for our first night of this nine-week long series, and La Perla Azul Restaurant was packed! If you’re not yet registered, I am happy to say that we can add 15 additional slots online for each night of the series. And lest you think that financial grants and theological speakers’ series are the only things happening here… drum roll please…
Worried about your Christmas shopping yet? Well, between December 8th and December 17th, we will be hosting a Christmas Market, with food, drink, games, crafts, and more! If you have ever been to Germany or Austria during Advent or Christmas time, you might be familiar with their famous Christmas Markets, in which whole cities transform into Christmas Fairs to celebrate the Child Jesus (these markets are known by the name of Christkindlmarkt or “Christ Child Market”). We will be hosting such a Christmas Market here at OLG, and you can already see the booths being built in front of the school. But while we will be hosting a German-style Christmas Market, we will be giving it a La Habra spin to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and the culture of Mexico. Our Market will be called the “Mercado del Niño Jesus” (The Market of the Child Jesus). More information is forthcoming, but we are delighted to share our Logo with you now. We are partnering with local restaurants and businesses to create a wonderful Christmas Market with great variety of food, drink, and fun. The Knights of Columbus Food Drive: November
The next Knights of Columbus Food Drive will be on Saturday, November 4th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. & Sunday, November 5th from 6:00 - 11:30 a.m. Items collected will be distributed to those locally in need. Bring your donations to the Parish Office garage on your way to Mass. Needed: Canned goods (soups, vegetables, fruit, tuna, meats, stew); Dry foods (hot or cold cereal, beans, rice, spaghetti/pasta); Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet tissue, disposable diapers). Thank you for your support!
Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Knights of Columbus will also be having their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive the weekend of November 18 & 19. Items collected will be turkeys, side dishes (stuffing, boxed mash potatoes, cranberry sauce) desserts (pumpkin or apple pies). Thank you in advance for helping provide a Thanksgiving meal for those in need.

This coming October 20 and 21, in response to the Bishops’ call for a National Eucharistic Revival, we will set out to host our own Eucharistic Congress. This event will invite people from all walks of life to gather in anticipation of the nearness of God. Through powerful speakers, transformative prayer and Sacramental celebrations, we will experience the life that flows from His existence, meeting Him in the reality of His Presence.
