Priest Comings and Goings as of July 1/Idas y venidas de sacerdotes a partir del 1 de julio
First the sad news: Fr. Randy Guillen will be leaving us on July 1 to be parochial vicar at St. Joachim in Costa Mesa. Fr. Randy’s departure is a couple of years sooner than we would have expected, but his particular gifts and experience are in particular need at St. Joachim at this time. Let us pray for Fr. Randy in this time of transition and prepare to send him forth from OLG with our best wishes for continued fruitfulness in his priestly ministry at St. Joachim.
The good news is that we will have two new priests coming to OLG on July 1. One of those will be truly a new priest – our former seminarian intern here at OLG, Deacon Jake Mackowicz. Deacon Jake is scheduled to be ordained to the priesthood on June 6. Then he will begin his first assignment as a priest here at OLG on July 1. Although Deacon Jake currently does not know Spanish, he desires to learn Spanish so that eventually he will be able to minister both in the English and Spanish parts of our community. Since he already is fluent in three languages – English, German and Polish – Deacon Jake probably will be able to pick up Spanish relatively quickly. Please pray for Deacon Jake: First, since Deacon Jake is still at his seminary in Canada and given the current travel restrictions because of the coronavirus, pray that Deacon Jake will be able to travel from Canada back to Orange County in time for his ordination on June 6. Also certainly pray for Deacon Jake as he prepares spiritually for his ordination and to come back to us here at OLG, this time to begin his priestly ministry.
More good news: Fr. Leonel Vargas, currently parochial vicar at St. Boniface in Anaheim, will be transferring here to OLG as a parochial vicar on July 1. Fr. Leonel has many years of experience as a priest ministering in both Spanish and English, so he will be a welcome addition to our team of priests here at OLG. Please pray for Fr. Leonel as he prepares to come to us on July 1.
